What This Exercise Does
Improve controlled supination — the arch-forming movement used during heel strike and push-off.
Why it matters: Supports arch control, foot stiffness at push-off and better stability in users who struggle to create or maintain an arch.
Think control through the heel and big toe. Do not create an arch by rolling onto the outside of the foot.
Set Up Your Board
Use the Basic Board Setup shown below. Choose the Right Foot Setup or Left Foot Setup below for the foot you are training.

Starting Position
Stand in a tandem stance with the working foot in front on the Ankle Balance Board.
How to Do It
- Shift forward into a small lunge.
- Allow the middle of the foot to lengthen and load.
- Press through the heel and big toe to rise back up.
- Feel the arch become more active as you return.
What You May Feel
Work through the arch and inside of the foot with controlled pressure through the heel and big toe.
Key Form Cues
- Maintain contact through heel and big toe.
- Do not roll to the outside edge of the foot.
- Keep the movement smooth.
Common Mistakes
- Lifting the big toe.
- Rolling the ankle outward to fake an arch.
- Using momentum instead of foot control.
Start with 5–8 slow repetitions per side. Perform 1–2 sets. Increase toward 8–10 repetitions only when you can maintain heel and big-toe contact with a smooth, controlled return.
Demonstration Video
Your board is ready. Watch the demonstration, then perform the exercise slowly and with control.
Ready for More Challenge?
Once you can perform this exercise with good control, you can increase the challenge by using the half-round balance balls.
Use the setup shown below for this exercise. Change only one element at a time. If you lose control, return to the Basic Board Setup.
