What This Exercise Does
Challenge balance with a staggered stance while maintaining foot and ankle control.
Why it matters: Bridges the gap between two-leg standing and single-leg balance.
Do not make the stance unnecessarily narrow. Give yourself enough width to practice good control.
Set Up Your Board
Use the approved Basic Board Setup for this exercise. Choose the Right Foot Setup or Left Foot Setup below for the foot you are training.

Starting Position
Stand in a staggered/tandem position with the working foot in front on the Ankle Balance Board, about one normal stride from the back foot. Keep some width between the feet for balance.
How to Do It
- Distribute weight between both legs.
- Keep the front foot stable on the board.
- Prevent the board from tipping abruptly to either side.
What You May Feel
Foot and ankle stabilizers working while both legs help maintain balance.
Key Form Cues
- Front knee aligned with the foot.
- Keep a natural stance width.
- Use steady pressure rather than stiffening the whole body.
Common Mistakes
- Standing on a tightrope with feet directly in one line.
- Leaning heavily onto the back leg.
- Looking down continuously and losing upright posture.
Hold 15–30 seconds. Perform 3 sets.

Ready for More Challenge?
Once you can perform this exercise with good control, you can increase the challenge by using the half-round balance balls.
Use the setup shown below for this exercise. Change only one element at a time. If you lose control, return to the Basic Board Setup.
