What This Exercise Does
Learn basic foot and ankle control with low load before progressing to standing.
Why it matters: Builds the foundation for balance and controlled correction of the Ankle Balance Board.
This is where you learn the board. Small corrections and steady pressure are exactly what you want.
Set Up Your Board
Use the approved Basic Board Setup for this exercise. Do not introduce an advanced setup yet. Choose the Right Foot Setup or Left Foot Setup below for the foot you are training.

Starting Position
Sit upright on a stable chair. Place the working foot centrally on the board and lean slightly forward so some body-weight moves into the foot.
How to Do It
- Press the foot gently into the board.
- Keep the board as level and controlled as possible.
- Make small corrections without letting the foot tip suddenly to either side.
What You May Feel
Light to moderate work in the foot and ankle stabilizers.
Key Form Cues
- Knee stays aligned over the foot.
- Keep even pressure through the foot.
- Small, slow corrections are better than large movements.
Common Mistakes
- Gripping/curling the toes.
- Letting the knee sway side to side.
- Pressing so hard that the board becomes uncontrolled.
Hold 15–30 seconds. Perform 3 sets.
Demonstration Video
Your board is ready and you have read the instructions. Watch the demonstration once, then perform the exercise yourself.
Ready for More Challenge?
Once you can perform this exercise with good control, you can increase the challenge by using the half-round balance balls.
Use the setup shown below for this exercise. Change only one element at a time. If you lose control, return to the Basic Board Setup.
